Partner Renaissance

Methodology

Transparency about the methodological foundations of the book: source selection, analytical framework and the limits of validity.

Interest in knowledge

The book aims to systematically analyze Partner Marketing for the first time as a strategic ecosystem - beyond operational guidelines and marketing rhetoric. The central question is: How does the partner economy influence economic structures and societal dynamics?

The analytical framework connects economic perspectives (efficiency, value creation, market structures) with social dimensions (trust, pluralism, democratic public). This interdisciplinary approach allows for a differentiated view of opportunities and risks.

Source selection

Primary sources

Industry studies from associations (APMA UK, BVDW, IAB Europe), platform reports (CJ Affiliate, impact.com, Awin), regulatory documents (EU Commission, FTC, CMA).

Secondary Sources

Analyst reports (Forrester, McKinsey), academic studies, professional publications, and journalistic research with traceable methodology.

Note on source quality:
Preferred were sources with transparent methodology, traceable samples, and independent collection. Manufacturer studies were only considered if the methodology was disclosed and the results could be validated by independent sources.

Analytical framework

Taxonomies

The partner types taxonomy (Chapter 5) and the impact dimensions (Chapters 8, 11) were inductively developed from industry practice and aligned with existing classifications.

Mechanism analysis

For each dimension of impact, the mechanism (How does it work?), the effect (What does it achieve?) and the limits (Where does its validity end?) were systematically presented.

Ambivalence Perspective

The book avoids one-sided evaluations. Each dimension of impact is presented with its opportunities and risks, its strengths and limitations.

Limits of significance

Data availability

The partner economy is a relatively young industry with limited academic research. Many statements are based on industry studies that do not always meet the standards of academic research.

Dynamics of the field

Technological developments (AI, tracking erosion) and regulatory changes can quickly alter the validity of individual statements. The update page documents relevant developments.

Geographical focus

The book focuses on the European and Anglo-American regions. Statements about market developments in other regions (Asia, Latin America) are less substantiated.

Normative Elements

The chapters on future scenarios and recommendations for action contain normative elements that are marked as such and invite discussion.

Scientific context

The book is intended as a practice-oriented specialist book, not as an academic study. It follows scientific standards regarding citations, traceability, and differentiation, but does not claim empirical completeness.

The author combines years of industry experience with systematic analysis. This perspective allows for practical classifications but also carries the risk of operational blindness, which has been addressed through critical reflection and external source validation.

Use of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence was used as support in the creation of this book. Not as an author, not as a content authority, and not as a source of personal insights, but as a tool for structuring, condensing, and linguistically refining complex content.

Specifically, AI was used in phases of text development, revision, and consistency checking. It was utilized to sharpen argumentation lines, identify redundancies, maintain consistent terminology, and systematically contrast different perspectives. However, the substantive theses, evaluations, weightings, and conclusions are exclusively derived from my own analysis, professional experience, and engagement with scientific and empirical sources.

The use of AI follows the same logic as other tools of scientific and analytical work: texts are not created in isolation but in dialogue with aids, models, and feedback systems. Artificial intelligence does not replace judgment or responsibility in this process. It expands the possibilities for reflection, accelerates iterations, and supports work on structure and clarity.

Especially in light of the topics addressed in the book - automation, platform logics, algorithmic mediation of information - this transparency is deliberately chosen. The reflective use of AI is itself part of the current transformation of digital value creation. Naming it openly is part of a responsible approach to new technological possibilities.

Method criticism welcome

Critical remarks on the methodology, alternative interpretations or references to relevant sources are explicitly welcome. Scientific progress arises from critical discourse.
